Our portfolio of active and past projects encompasses diverse domains within Data Science. From developing predictive models for healthcare applications to analyzing large-scale datasets for social impact, our research endeavors are characterized by their interdisciplinary nature and real-world relevance.


  • BETTER (Horizon Europe): Under the support of Horizon Europe, BETTER aims to revolutionize healthcare through decentralized infrastructure. The primary aim is to empower healthcare professionals with access to extensive multi-source health data in a secure, cost-effective manner while ensuring compliance with GDPR privacy guidelines. Our group at Politecnico di Milano teams up in a diverse consortium with 2 companies, 5 universities, and 6 research hospitals. We will lead Work Package 4, focusing on Health datasets FAIRification and preprocessing to standardize data for analysis. Additionally, PoliMi takes the lead in technological advancements for a specific healthcare scenario concerning “Paediatric Intellectual Disability.”

  • SENSIBLE (PRIN PNRR 2022): The project funded by PRIN PNRR 2022 aims to revolutionize viral pathogen identification and surveillance. Through collaboration between Politecnico di Milano and Università degli Studi di Milano, the project seeks to develop cutting-edge methods leveraging data-driven approaches for the early detection of emerging viral threats. By establishing an objective genomic surveillance framework, the project aims to enhance preparedness for current and future epidemics, ultimately contributing to improved decision-making in healthcare.
  • TETYS (NGI Search): TETYS, a beneficiary of the Next Generation Internet Search initiative, aims to develop an innovative open-source topic explorer. It focuses on two main goals: 1) Building a Robust Pipeline to ingest big data corpora and extract highly relevant topics efficiently. 2) Developing an Interactive Dashboard for visualizing topics as word clouds and exploring temporal series. Overall, TETYS seeks to transform web topic exploration, providing users with intuitive insights and enhancing their browsing experience.
